About

Tammy Wynette

Tammy Wynette is a mother of three and a “G-MA” (grandma). Born in Wilmar, Arkansas, I currently reside in Sacramento, CA. I am a former ARC student in the Umoja Sakhu Learning Community. I’m an active leader and role model in the community, and have worked with teens sharing and teaching poetry, as well as providing insight for young parents to prosper.

I’m also certified as a Mental Health First Aider, an advocate and peer support specialist for NAMI (The National Alliance on Mental Illness) as well as an “In Our Own Voice” presenter. I’m passionate about raising awareness regarding mental health, particularly the disparities within the BIPOC (Black Indigenous People of Color) communities. A trailblazer & Griot, keeper of stories/traditions passed down from my ancestors. As an Author and motivational speaker, it’d be an honor to present at your events to inspire, encourage & offer hope through the power of V.O.I.C.E.! Please know that you are not alone in your journey.

Some of my short stories and poems are featured in Our Black Mothers: Brave, Bold and Beautiful!
